Does stinging nettle fabric sting?
No, stinging nettle fabric doesn't sting. On the contrary, the fabric is soft to the touch. We only use the fibres from the stem. The leaves and the hairs which cause the sting are left behind and are not used in the clothing.
What is Brennels?

What does Brennels mean?
The name Brennels doesn't come from a dialect of Dutch. Brennels is derived from the German word 'brennessel', which means 'stinging nettle'.
Are the clothes expensive?
The production and development of clothes made of stinging nettle fabric is, at this stage, expensive. All the processes are new, the material is scare and the volumes are minimal. This means that the clothes will have a price tag which won't suit everyone. People who wear Brennels clothes however, help to raise the profile of a unique product.
Can I make clothes with the stinging nettles from my garden?
Unfortunately, that's not possible. The two different types of stinging nettle used by Brennels have been specially developed for the high quality fibres and you won't find them in your back yard.
I would like to grow stinging nettles. Is this possible?
The commercial viability of growing stinging nettles as an agricultural crop is still limited. Research will show if it is possible to grow stinging nettles commercially on the fertile but expensive soil of the reclaimed land (the 'polder').
How organic is the cultivation?
Stinging nettle plants are resistant to disease and vermin. That's why the nettles don't require polluting pesticides. Brennels does use fertilizers so the cultivation is still not totally organic. For cotton, however, the use of fertilizers is extremely high. This is not the case with stinging nettles, which makes growing stinging nettles more organic that growing cotton.
